A little about me...
Hello! I am a senior public relations student at Kent State University. I have always enjoyed writing and communicating with others, as well as working with the public and customer service, which is why I chose to embark on a journey through the public relations field. I have particular interests in agency PR, event planning, and non-profit, all of which I would like to experience through my future career paths.
Currently, I am an intern at Flash Communications, which is part of Kent State’s University Communication and Marketing department. At Flash, I work in a PR agency setting to write, produce, and edit stories for the KSU homepage, internal faculty and staff newsletter, and the Kent State magazine. This past summer, I broadened my PR experience with another internship in Pittsburgh at All Occasions Party Rental. I worked alongside the company’s marketing director to write newsletters, produce story topics, and meet with event planners to produce multimedia pieces for the company’s up-and-coming blog.
I also have experienced writing for a newspaper, as I served as the beat reporter for Kent State’s College of Communication and Information, and a correspondent for the feature’s section known as Extra! in Kent’s student-run newspaper, the Daily Kent Stater. In addition to writing, this past spring, I competed in PRSSA’s national Bateman Case Study Competition. I worked in a group of four other faculty-selected students to research, design, implement, and evaluate our own real-world public relations campaign.
I take a liking to busting out of my comfort zone and traveling. This past summer, I was lucky enough to travel with a group of faculty-selected students to London. I am pleased to show my work from this class on my blog, Thoughts of a First-Time Traveler. In addition to this blog, I also run Design on a Dollar, my blog devoted to living a thrifty lifestyle in college. I hope to start a career in PR that will allow me to do more traveling and experience the world.
During this 2013-2-14 school year, I will serve as the Co-Vice President of Fundraising for PRSSA Kent. Already, I implemented a homecoming silent auction that brought in over $2,000 for the chapter.
From a personal standpoint, I was born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. That is also where I was molded into a Pittsburgh Penguin's hockey fan. I am a sarcasm enthusiast, a lover of comedy, and appreciate a good sense of humor. I am ready to see where all of my interests and experience in public relations take me. Please feel free to contact me for more info, at [email protected].
